Technology in the Classroom
"I think that anything that becomes so absorbing that it stops you from doing anything else is not a good thing," (Brett, 2012, as cited in CBC News Canada, 2012)
Children at a very young age are using the internet, mobiles, and video games. In some cases this can be a good thing but I can assure you that there are risks that all parents should know about. Meanwhile technology can be used for education purposes, there is a psychological and physical concern. The too frequent use of digital media reduces the mental capacity of our children. Also maintaining a healthy balance between entertainment media and other activities in children's lives has always been a challenge. As parents and educators we should effectively address this problem by making the students understand where the problem is so they are cognizant of their choices. Reducing the hours that they spend on the computer is the next step. This comes by a good parental model that can influence the child and voluntary commitment on both sides. In my opinion building knowledge for the use of the technology is the best way. “Knowledge is power!”(Bacon, n.d.)
Considering the fact that technology is bolstering kids learning experiences and it’s adding a fun colourful side to the education that they get from school. There is technology that is helping kids with developmental disabilities also. Bottom line is that there are pros and cons to the latest best technology that we have now. There is a high risk for children using technology without supervision. The best thing that all parents and educators should do is to train themselves in the technology that their kids are presented to and that they are using for school purposes or just for entertainment. If parents learn and educate themselves properly how to monitor it best, it will make things easier in the long run, it will ensure a safe, positive and healthy experience for their children.
